NoteTracker

About NoteTracker

NoteTracker aggregates asking prices for Australian banknotes from dealers and marketplaces, giving collectors a single place to compare prices.

How It Works

1

Scan

We scan 10+ dealer websites and marketplaces hourly, collecting every banknote listing with its price, grade, and seller details.

2

Classify

Each listing is matched to one of ~400 canonical banknote types using denomination, signature pair, and era detection.

3

Compare

Browse by type, filter by grade, and see every seller's asking price side-by-side — cheapest first.

Market Price Methodology

Market prices are calculated using the median of all active listings for a given banknote type and grade bucket. The median is more robust than the average because it isn't skewed by a single extremely high or low asking price.

Outlier removal: Listings priced more than 3x the median are excluded from the calculation to prevent unrealistic prices from distorting the market view.

Confidence levels: Market prices based on 3+ listings from 2+ sellers are shown with full confidence. Prices based on fewer data points are flagged as estimates.

Prices shown are asking prices, not realised/sold prices. Actual transaction prices may differ.

Grading Guide

Australian banknotes are graded on the Sheldon scale (1–70), commonly used by PMG and PCGS. Here's the full scale from poor to perfect:

Poor

PMG 1

Poor

Barely identifiable. Heavy damage, pieces missing, or heavily taped/repaired.

G

PMG 4–6

Good

Heavily circulated with significant wear. All design elements visible but details are flat. May have tears or stains.

VG

PMG 8–10

Very Good

Well-circulated with clear design. Some detail remains in the vignette and lettering.

F

PMG 12–15

Fine

Moderate circulation wear. Main features are sharp with some loss of fine detail. Several folds visible.

VF

PMG 20–35

Very Fine

Light circulation wear. Crisp details with only minor evidence of handling. One or two light folds.

EF

PMG 40–45

Extremely Fine

Minimal wear on high points. Virtually full original crispness with perhaps one light fold.

AU

PMG 50–58

About Uncirculated

Trace handling only. Full original lustre with the slightest evidence of contact or a light corner fold.

Unc

PMG 60–63

Uncirculated

No circulation wear. May have minor handling marks or blemishes from storage.

Gem

PMG 64–70

Gem Uncirculated

Perfect or near-perfect condition. Outstanding eye appeal with no visible imperfections. 65+ is superb, 67+ is exceptional.
